Cosmetic op turns awry for housewife

PENANG: A middle-aged housewife has fallen prey to promises of beauty by a cosmetic surgery centre here.

The operations she underwent to enlarge her breasts and trim her tummy and buttocks turned awry.

The woman, who had been having her facials at the centre, was persuaded last August to undergo a few operations in China to look more beautiful.

She went with a group of five other women whom the centre claimed were its pioneer surgery customers.

The woman had her breasts enlarged and underwent a liposuction procedure to trim her tummy and buttocks.

She had earlier had an eyelid surgery by another Chinese national doctor at the centre’s premises in Penang.

The total cost of all the operations amounted to about RM45,000.

Within three months, her breasts sagged, her armpits swelled and lumps started forming on her buttocks.

When she complained to the centre, she was told these effects were part of the recovery process.

Only when she threatened to sue that the centre offered a second operation in China in April this year but there was no improvement to her condition.

“The centre refuses to refund my money but said they would carry out another operation but I turned it down,” the woman said.

“I regret ever doing this,” she said at the state DAP headquarters here.

State DAP secretary Danny Law said there were many other such victims but they were afraid to come forward with their complaints.

“The government must regulate such cosmetic centres that make all sorts of claims as these centres are sprouting like mushrooms in the country,” Law said.

He said he would help the woman file a case with the Consumer Claims Tribunal.

One Response to Horrors of cosmetic surgeries

This is why I’d never resort to cosmetic surgery. We should be thankful of God’s gifts. Cosmetic surgery is forbidden in Islam, although reconstructive surgery is permitted with valid reasons (e.g. if a surgery will save someone’s life).
