I usually am too lazy to waste too much energy on this blog ‘cos the traffic is not much to shout about. So, I prefer to bring it to my personal blog to rant. But I suppose this topic is more fitting here.

Sometimes last week, there was a ‘Special pull-out section’ for women. When I see the load of craps in there, my blood boiled. But I wanted to let it pass ‘cos it is none of my blardy business because I am not mom to four daughters. So, taking an interest in them have not much impact for me.

Later in the week, there is again another ‘Special pull-out section’ for brides. Again, it is the same load of craps in there.

It is all about enlarging the boobs, embroidery for eyebrows, slimming, spa, facial, more enlarging the breasts, hair removal, wedding gowns and even more enlarging the bosoms, hair styling, hair colourings and etc. If you pin point each ads to the anatomy of a woman, there is nothing left that is not ‘enlarged, removed, slimmed, added’.

The way I see it, women are moving backwards now. Everything is pinpointed to making them more beautiful, artificially. And for whom do women prim for? As a piece of meat for the men to devour?

I don’t know. With all these parts of a women bodies that call out to be improve, what message does it sent out to the males? That we are not perfect? Do you think women, of any rankings will ever be taken seriously anymore? It is all about packaging, not content anymore.
I seriously am very glad that I grew up in a previous generation where there wasn’t so much emphasis for a woman to be big breasted, hairless, slim, porcelain skin and has hairs dictated by its length. Yeah, back then, I had the privilege of getting RM5 imported Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Glamour and whatever overseas magazines (‘cos they tore off the main cover and sold it cheap, one month later). But seriously, there weren’t these kind of shites about ‘do something to your body kind to improve’ message. Women magazines were much more empowering back then. We read to gain self-respect and our esteem.

Now? It is full of craps and I hope all the young ladies have the wisdoms to sniff them out. We are worth much more than our outer appearances.

I think the increase of these adverts over the years is becoz women’s spending power has increased, and more can afford. I do agree with you that the message of ‘do something to your body kind to improve’ message is worrisome and shallow, and really back-trackking. Not just to women but to men as well.
