SK-II cosmetics are safe (for Malaysia)
SK-II cosmetics are safe for use and the products will continue to be available here, according to a statement issued by the local representative.
Procter & Gamble (M) Sdn Bhd said it wanted to clear the air in light of recent negative news reports on some of its products in China.
It said the controversy was triggered by a press release on Sept 14, stating that the Guangdong Centre for Inspection and Quarantine had found chromium and neodymium in nine SK-II products imported from Japan.
The company explained that chromium and neodymium were not used in making SK-II products.
“Trace elements of these ingredients exist naturally in the environment, and in food, water and cosmetic products.
“The trace levels of chromium in question are 100 times less than what the World Health Organisation considers safe in our everyday diet.
“Similarly, the level of neodymium exposure is at least 1,000 times less than what is considered to be safe,” the statement read.
The company said the trace levels found in SK-II products were well within limits recognised as safe within the European Union, the United States and other countries.
“All SK-II products in Malaysia comply with standards and regulations, which we believe are in accordance with government rules and regulations around the world.
“The US Food and Drug Authority regulations recognise that unavoidable levels of trace elements like chromium and neodymium can be found in cosmetic products and do not pose a health or safety risk to consumers,” the statement added.
It said SK-II sales had only been temporarily suspended in China, adding that this was not the case in Malaysia and other Asian markets. (copy from The Star Online)

Thank you for your support to SK-II. As one of our valued and loyal SK-II users, we would like to reassure you that SK-II products are safe and that you can continue to use your SK-II products with complete confidence.
We are also writing to you not only to provide reassurance on the safety of SK-II, but also share some information with you in light of the recent developments on SK-II in China which you may have heard about. The issue relates to consumer concerns and negative publicity triggered by a press statement released via the Xinhua News Agency stating that the CIQ found chromium and neodymium in nine SK-II products imported from Japan.
At SK-II, product safety and quality are our highest priority. The trace levels found in SK-II products are well within limits recognized as safe within the EU and other countries including the US. Furthermore, we believe our products are in compliance with government rules and regulations around the world, including the Ministry of Health in Malaysia, the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore, and the Taiwan Department of Health, Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, The European Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association, Korea Toxicity Society and U.S FDA.
According to Dr. John Bailey, former U.S. FDA official and current Executive Vice President for Science, Cosmetics Toiletries and Fragrance Association, (CTFA) “The U.S. FDA regulations recognize that unavoidable levels of trace elements like chromium and neodymium can be found in cosmetic products and do not pose a health or safety risk to consumers.”
In fact, trace levels of ingredients like chromium and neodymium exist naturally in the environment and in a range of everyday products such as food, water, and cosmetic products. They are not used in the manufacture of SK-II products. The trace levels of chromium in the products in question are in fact 100 times less than what the World Health Organization (WHO) considers safe in your everyday diet. Similarly, the level of neodymium is at least 1,000 times less than what is considered to be a safe level in your every day diet.

hi,
i have been using SKII product and am very satisfied with its performance.i just came back from a night market near my place. there was a stall selling beauty products of many international brands, and one of them is skII.the prices of these items are very cheap.i noticed that the packaging is diferent but was assured by the woman that the content is actually the real one.she further told me that if i were to buy SKII from taiwan then i would be buying an imitation.the original content would be from japan. she also sells SKII lipstick.when i visited the website there is no lipstick and if i am not mistaken i did not see any lipstick from the SKII counters i have frequently visited.is the woman right? she in fact assured me that she knows everything as she worked as a sales rep in one of the shopping malls in kuala lumpur.please advise.
