Do you know that when a newly wed wants to set up the matrimonial bed, they need to choose an auspicious date to do so? Normally, they will pick a time and date and the bride will go to the groom’s house to arrange the bed, her clothes and dressing table and etc. After that, the bed will be left untouched until the day she got married and sleep on it. Pretty big issue, ya?

For me, I couldn’t even afford a bed when I got married. We slept on the floor, in this rented low cost flat on some mattress. I think I bought a new set of bedsheets, though. :P Anyway, we had been living together all along and therefore, there is no suspense of the ‘first night’. Heh.

The bed will continue to hold a lot of taboos. Just yesterday, my housekeeper was suddenly called away because one of the house she does housekeeping needs her to change bed sheet. Hear this….this woman had not been able to get pregnant for 10 years. When she finally got pregnant, she dare not even change the bed sheet because old folks said that moving the bed when a woman is pregnant will cause miscarriage. So, this woman finally gave birth, brought the baby home and asked my housekeeper to go over to change the bed sheet that has been left unwashed for like, what? Six months maybe? Ewwsss..

Oh well, at least we are not expected to place a white sheet to prove our virginity like Memoirs of the the geisha. Hehehehe.
