Contact lenses and some thoughts

The other day, my hubby and I went to the optometrist to get his eye checked. He wanted to get himself a pair of contact lenses but was advised against it as his eyesight power, or what you call it, is only 100. The optometrist told him that he will have a hard time fitting on the lens because it will be too thin to handle.

So, I am curious if this can be the case. I tried looking around for more information on contact lenses. He also has astigmatism which make it even harder to find a perfect fit. I think he has to forget about contact lenses altogether after this.
