In the 70s and 80s, heavy weight boxing champion was like a national pastime to many country. I remembered how time almost standstill when there were world championship matches going on. Everyone stopped and paused just to watch the matches on TV. The names of the champions were in everyone’s conversation. Such is the attraction of heavy weight boxing. It offers brute, hope, sportsmanship and many other things. Most of all, it brings a lot of motivation to a lot of people because many of these boxers rose from humble background to be champions.
“Backgammon Masters Sponsors Heavyweight Roman Greenberg to Fight Damon Reed” is now the headlines. Some people may have the impression that it spells gambling. However,
backgammon is played as a social game in some countries as a past-time as well. I didn’t know it too until I read that some of the conservative countries play backgammon to past-time. The backgammon game is an engaging game that requires one’s wit. Oh talking about that, did you read the news that mahjong can cause seizures? Yeap, that’s what researchers found in Hongkong.
Back to backgammon and boxing, let me share with you a little bit about this young heavyweight boxer. Undefeated heavyweight boxer Roman Greenberg 25-0 (17), born in Russia, raised in Israel and currently trains in the UK, is scheduled to battle Damon Reed at the South Town Exhibition Center in Sandy, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA on August 18. That’s only a few days away. Greenberg, only 25, is going up against 35 year old veteran boxer Damon Reed 43-11 (30). Greenberg’s last fight was in March against Michal Simms where Greenberg beat Simms, battling it out in 10 rounds in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
