I just hate this song. I used to spend my new year’s eve with my ex-company because our boss had the great idea to hold our annual sales department dinner on a new year’s eve. So, for at least 5-6 years, I never get to celebrate any New Year’s Eve with my then-bf, now husband because I was the organiser of the dinner. Like it or not, I have to grudgingly arrange the dinner and the entertainment.
So, Auld Lang Syne was like the staple song for New Year’s Eve. If you do not know the auld lang syne lyrics, here they are, copied from Wiki.
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old times since ?CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
And surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.CHORUS
We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.CHORUS
And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.CHORUS
I personally prefer this Same Old Lang Syne by the late Dan Fogelberg
This song they also like to play during funerals.. sometimes in romantic movies too, I’ve noticed
